MACROW COMES AWAY WITH CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD AFTER STRONG ROUND AT ORAN PARK With the championship heading to Sydney’s Oran Park Raceway for Round 2 of the Kumho Tyres Australian Formula Three Championship, joint series leader Tim Macrow was looking for another strong showing continuing his red-hot start to the season so far.
Macrow showed a dominant display at last years round at the circuit, with the two race wins. Another dominant showing was on the cards with Macrow coming off three brilliant race wins at the non-championship round at Albert Park and was fully prepared for a good result.
Stepping back into his familiar Cooltemp/Scud Racing Dallara F304, a good start and strong race setup was the weekend strategy for Macrow looking to once again put on a dominant display and retain the series lead.
Qualifying was always going to be a major factor in a successful weekend and Macrow and the team were not all that satisfied with the performance of the car. Tim ended up qualifying third and second in which he would start the two races from with the key now to have the jump off the starting line.
Quote Qualifying - The car just didnt have the right setup and lacked a bit of speed. With a few changes im confident we can have a competitive car for tomorrow.
With rival Charlie Hollings getting a strong jump off the line, Macrow was always going to have a tough challenge of catching him. In an uneventful race, Tim brought the car home in a solid second place just not being able to match the car speed of Hollings.
Quote Race 1
“I was a pretty straightforward race. I made a good start and past Leanne, but we couldn’t quite match Charlies race pace”.
Starting from the front row in race two was always going to be a handy advantage for Macrow, and with some small changes made to the car, a strong race package was looking on task for the final race.
With Hollings once again getting a strong start, Tim was looking for what he does best, mid race strength. But once again, Macrow just missed out on catching Charlie Hollings to once again take a strong second position.
Race two quote- “Even though we didn’t quite have the speed this weekend, overall were happy and now have the championship lead. “ thanks to the guys for all there hard work, roll on Philip Island.
Tim Macrow now leads the 2007 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula Three Championship, the battle for the CAMS Gold Star on 62 points, 11 points over Brit Charlie Hollings.
The next round of the 2007 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula Three Championship will be in just under two weeks time, at Victoria’s picturesque Phillip Island on May 5 and 6. Be sure to check out the action then.
