MACROW UNLUCKY IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA

After setting a blistering pace in both qualifying sessions on Saturday in his Dallara F301, Tim Macrow is ruing an opportunity lost after both Formula 3 Races on Sunday.

Daily reports follow:

Friday:
Friday started well for Tim Macrow Racing with the teams Dallara F301 being fast straight out of the box. With no testing of the car prior to Mallala and a full rebuild of the ex-BRM Dallara after the Australian Grand Prix meeting, the team was pleasantly surprised with the cars outright speed.

"The car felt good today as soon as it hit the track. We are confident of having a good run in the qualifying sessions tomorrow," Tim said after the mid afternoon session.

Saturday:

Qualifying 1
With some overnight adjustments and a new set of Kumho slicks at his disposal, Tim dipped under the qualifying record with a scintillating lap of 1:03.5641 to just pip Aaron Caratti (Astuti F304) for pole position.

"The car is just fantastic. I'm absolutely stoked," mused Tim. "It was a committed Lap and at first I didn't believe that I had set the time! We are really looking forward to the races tomorrow because we think we have a car that can race strongly tomorrow," the 23 year old Victorian said.

Qualifying 2
Qualifying 2 was much of the same with Tim taking pole position from Caratti with the second Astuti car of Chris Alajajian taking third.

Sunday
Race 1
After winning the start Michael Caruso took the lead on lap one. After a slight rear end touch on Caruso's car going into turn 6 Tim broke park of his wing making the car hard work from then on. With an understeering car Tim struggled on for the rest of the race to eventually finish 3rd after Chris Alajajian was handed a ten second penalty for re-entering the circuit dangerously.

Race 2
After stalling on the warm up lap Tim re-took pole position and after a blistering start lead buy a comfortable margin only to be black flagged for his warm up lap infringement.

"I've got no one else to blame, I just let the clutch out a bit to quick on the warm up lap."

Tim recovered to finish seventh after storming though the field after taking his penalty. Astuti's Aaron Caratti took the win.

After an encouraging round 2 Tim Macrow Racing will head to Phillip Island looking to repeat his qualifying form from round 2 and translate it to race performance.

"We have the speed we just need a bit of luck. This weekend was an opportunity lost, but we're encouraged."

The next round of the 2005 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship is on the 21-22 May at the picturesque Phillip Island Raceway in Victoria.
